Hello and welcome to my blog. I’ve been interested in self-sufficiency for several years now. I’ve dreamed of managing a smallholding, read countless books on the subject, watched television programmes, chatted to smallholders and then dreamed some more. I don’t have a smallholding of my own; I live in a fairly regular house and work a full time job. However, even though I’m not currently in a position to live the good life, I’ve discovered that it is still possible to get a taste of it.
I have long thought about starting this blog, but I always feared I wouldn’t have enough to write about. However, my family and I recently started renting a house with a fairly large garden, in theory enabling us to start growing a much larger proportion of our food than we have ever been able to before. So I have finally decided to start. Over the coming weeks and months I plan to document the more interesting of the things we try, be it growing vegetables, foraging, new recipes, homebrewing or DIY. Hopefully you’ll find what I share to be of interest, and I would love to hear any tips you may have to share. So without further ado, I shall start blogging. Please check back regularly, as it’s a busy time in the garden (and hedgerow) at the moment!
